What is Swedish?

Swedish Massage is the manipulation of the superficial layers of the muscles and soft tissues for therapeutic purposes. Its style is defined by 5 techniques: effleurage, petrissage, tapotement, friction, vibration.

EFFLEURAGE

Smooth, flowing strokes, usually in the direction of the heart to help relax the muscles and stimulate blood flow.

PETRISSAGE

Kneading strokes that go deeper into the tissue to facilitate circulation.

TAPOTEMENT

Rhythmic cupping, drumming & tapping used to stimulate and soften tissue.

FRICTION

Deep pressure applied with the ball of the thumb in small circular or cross—fiber movements to penetrate deep tissues.

VIBRATION

A fine, trembling movement using the palm or fingertips to help improve nerve function and muscle relaxation.

what are the benefits?

EASING OF MUSCLE TIGHTNESS & PAIN

Our bodies often experience stress from repetitive movements due to work, sports and prolonged sitting. Swedish massage can help relieve pain and prevent future injuries.

STRESS RELIEF, IMPROVED SLEEP & EMOTIONAL WELL BEING

Studies show that massage increases serotonin levels in the body, resulting in improved and prolonged sleep. Better quality of sleep can help reduce stress, improve focus, boost your mood and improve your overall sense of emotional well being.

IMPROVED POSTURE

Postural imbalances can have many sources such as overworked muscles due to repetitive strain, overcompensating muscles to ease overworked muscles, prolonged sitting or injury. Swedish massage helps to ease the muscular holding that underlies postural imbalances.

HEADACHE RELIEF

Headaches and migraines are often a result of stress and poor circulation.
